Union Pacific’s Steam Locomotive No. 844 to stop at Burger Day

El Reno Main Street is proud to partner with Union Pacific Railroad in celebration of the Railroad’s 150th Anniversary! Union Pacific’s Steam Locomotive No. 844 will pull into the Canadian County Historical Museum in the late afternoon on Thursday, May 3rd for a welcoming celebration.  It will be hauling The Promontory, a 1962-vintage baggage car transformed into a state-of-the-art museum.  The Promontory features original railroad construction tools and artifacts, as well as interactive media featuring Union Pacific’s history and the history of many communities on the nationwide anniversary tour, including El Reno.

In the morning of Friday, May 4, UP and the City of El Reno will unveil a railroad-themed mural, painted by local artist Chris Small, that will be painted on the historic Route 66 underpass as it crosses under UP’s track, near the museum.  The train and museum car will be available for tours during the day on Friday, May 4th.

The train will also be carrying UP’s famous Mini train, which will be set up on Burger Day offering free train rides.  You can also ride the Heritage Express Trolley from the Burger Day festival to the museum to tour the train and museum car from 10am to 4pm.
